Coach John took my son from zero to swimming independently
We’ve been with Coach John for 2 years and he’s the coach who took my son from zero to swimming independently.
When Garric started in September 2023, he had just turned 7 and was completely afraid of water, he couldn’t even put his face in the pool. We had spent over a year with another coach before that but saw no real progress.
Coach John started from scratch. He focused on building trust, water confidence and proper technique with step by step.
In just 3 months, Garric learned breaststroke. Over the course of 2 years, he passed every swim stage:
Stage 1 & 2 – Apr 2024
Stage 3 – Mar 2025
Stage 4 – Sep 2025 (age 9)
The group classes are small (3–5 kids) and Coach John gives every child the attention they need. Although lessons are 45 minutes, he often runs overtime to make sure each child improves.
He’s patient but firm, gives honest feedback and encourages the kids at just the right moments. Sometimes he even gives them little rewards after class, which they love.
Coach John didn’t just teach my son how to swim. He helped him overcome fear, build confidence and truly enjoy being in the water.
If you’re looking for a coach who knows how to teach from the ground up and truly cares about the kids, I highly recommend him.

Finally Confident in the Deep End
Coach John is really good.
I like that he limits the number of students to about 6 so that every child can be taught seriously.
My two children have been learning swimming under this coach. They are now about to take the Level 4 exam and plan to complete all 6 levels before graduating from P6.

Coach John Helped Me Grow from a Beginner to a Lifesaver
I enjoyed my time with Coach John. Over the course of 5 years, he coached me through from the basics of swimming to helping me earn the LifeSaver certificate.
Despite being some progress being hindered by Covid-19, he saw the class’ willingness to complete the SwimSafer and LifeSaver programmes. As such, he honed our skills, allowing us to pass with flying colours.
Overall, Coach John was determined to bring the best out of every student, pushing them to their limits while still caring for their wellbeing. He made my swimming journey truly unique.

I Learned to Swim Confidently and Had Fun Doing It
My swimming knowledge before joining was just floating. I decided to join swim lessons as it is an important life skill that I wanted to acquire.
For me, I was able to grasp onto the basics really quickly within the first 4 months. I learnt swimming for about 6 years where I learnt 4 strokes (breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke and butterfly). I also learnt necessary survival techniques, swimming with clothes on, without goggles etc.
I feel that the lessons were very engaging and the coach was very encouraging. I always looked forward for my weekly swim lessons as I had a lot of fun while learning at the same time!

Relaxed Lessons That Really Helped Me Improve
Before joining Coach John’s class, I only had 4 lessons with another coach — just enough to get over my fear of water and learn to float. I continued ‘cos I wanted to swim properly and not panic in the pool.
Had about 14 lessons with him, now I can do breaststroke, and picked up freestyle as well. There are still avenue to improve, but at least I feel more steady and can practise on my own.
I chose this coach mainly ‘cos the location was convenient, but turned out to be a good decision — he is easy-going, patient, and explains things clearly. Class always feels relaxed, not stressful at all.
If you’re looking for a coach who’s friendly and can make learning swimming less scary, can really consider him.

Finally Confident in the Deep End
Although i learned basic breaststroke in early teenage years, I’m not confident enough to swim in deep pool. Hence, I decided to learn swimming again to have a good base and learn more than just breaststroke.
I took a total of 12 lessons with Coach John. During which, I learned breaststroke, freestyle and important survival skill (float on front & back, treading water and underwater) throughout these lessons.
Coach John is passionate in his craft and helped me overcome my fear in swimming. His approach is tailored to individual needs. He is strict but that’s what makes us a good swimmer. Overall, I enjoyed my time learning swimming with Coach John

She Went from Fearful to Confident in the Water
Before starting lessons, my daughter had no confidence in the water—she’d only play timidly at the edge of the pool. I decided to enroll her in swimming lessons because she showed a strong interest in water play, and I wanted her to overcome her fear of deep water so she could safely enjoy pool activities with friends and family.
After two years of lessons with Teacher John, I’m amazed at how far she’s come! What began as basic water confidence (putting her face underwater, blowing bubbles) evolved into mastering proper breathing techniques, floating independently, and learning strokes like freestyle and backstroke. The lessons were thoughtfully structured to make each step feel achievable, even for a child who once trembled at the thought of leaving the pool’s edge.
What We Loved About Teacher John & the Lessons:
- Patience with Young Learners: Teaching a fearful 5-year-old, who scared drown in the water, to embrace swimming is no small task, but Teacher John’s encouraging in different approach made all the difference. He never rushed her and celebrated every milestone, no matter how small.
- Tailored to Her Pace: Lessons were adapted to my daughter’s comfort level. He repeated instructions clearly and ensured she mastered foundational skills (like floating or kicking) before introducing new challenges.
- Clear Communication & Feedback: Teacher John explained techniques in simple, kid-friendly terms. He also gave personalized feedback after lesson, so I always knew her progress and next steps.
- Supportive Environment: My daughter looked forward to every lesson, even she just recovered from illness. Teacher John incorporated games and playful drills (like retrieving dive toys) to keep her engaged. She felt excited to learn and often requested extra time to learn.
Teacher John didn’t just teach my daughter to swim; he helped her overcome her fears of drowning. Today, she splashes with confidence, joins pool games with friends, and look forward for every swimming class. If you’re looking for a coach who combines expertise with genuine care for children’s emotional and physical progress, Teacher John is the one. I’m so grateful we took that first step—it’s been a joy watching her grow!
